Plus Size Fall 2007 to Winter 2008 Fashion by Janice Wee

If you are plus size, chances are you have generous curves. Don't hide them. Emphasize your curves. The good curves, that is.

Take stock of yourself in the mirror. Is your waist, tummy and all, smaller than your hips or your bust? If your waist is smaller than your hips and your bust, then go for the curvy look. Quit worrying about the tummy.

It is a misconception that plus size women must dress in baggy clothes to hide the fat. You might feel more secure hidden under that baggy sweater worn over baggy pants, but did you know that baggy clothes make you look fatter?

Another mistake is to wear all black (or some other color that's wrong for you) outfits thinking you'd look slimmer when the color doesn't do a thing for you.

Let's start with the color. No doubt, dark colors are said to be slimming and you see lots of them this Fall and Winter, but in reality, colors are slimming only if they flatter you. Only if the color looks good against your skin.

First, find out what colors suit you. Gather t-shirts, sweaters, scarves and even colored construction paper in medium and dark colors that you really like. Go sit in the sunlight (by the window if the weather outside is too cold) with a mirror.

Put each item under your chin and look in the mirror. How does that color make your face look? Brighter? Duller? Radiant? Drained?

If a color makes you look good, set the item in a good-color pile..

When you've gone through all the colors, take photos of each color in the pile and bring those photos with you when you shop for clothes. Be sure to buy clothes only in the colors that suit you.

Fall 2007 to Winter 2008 celebrates the hourglass figure, which is what you have.

The only thing you really need to do is to focus on your waist. Do daily situps to flatten that stomach. Wear plus size shapewear made for women like yourself. These should take care of the tummy problem.

Then go for dresses, jackets, coats and basically any outfit that nips in at the waist. Wear one of this season's gorgeous belts to further emphasize your waist. The rest of your outfit should be fitted, but not tight. Clothes must be sleek enough not to have any excess material, An outfit that skims your figure is fine but never go for anything baggy or shapeless.

For Fall and Winter, skirt suits are in. Go get yours. Just make sure the waist is nipped in or at least, wear a belt around your waist. Never wear the belt over your hips.

As for coats, don;t fall into the trap of wearing a shapeless coat to hide everything. Wear a coat that defines your waist and be in line with this season's trends, which happen to flatter women like you.
